Alliance for Aging - Your Local Area Agency on Aging (PSA 11)

The Alliance for Aging serves as Miami-Dade County's designated Area Agency on Aging, connecting older adults and individuals with disabilities to essential community-based services that enable them to remain independent and avoid premature nursing home placement.

Who Qualifies for Services

  • Adults age 60 and older residing in Miami-Dade County
  • Adults age 18 and older with disabilities residing in Miami-Dade County

Food Assistance Programs

Meals on Wheels Miami-Dade

Service: Free home-delivered meals for homebound seniors who are unable to prepare their own meals
Contact: Alliance for Aging ADRC at 305-670-4357
Eligibility: Seniors at least 60 years old who are homebound and unable to prepare meals independently

Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)

Service: Monthly food boxes containing nutritious USDA foods including canned fruits and vegetables, juice, cereal, pasta, rice, peanut butter, dry beans, and shelf-stable milk
Serves: Over 3,300 eligible low-income seniors age 60 and older in Miami-Dade County
Contact: Through Feeding South Florida and local distribution sites
Eligibility: Age 60 and older, income at or below 130% of federal poverty level, reside in Miami-Dade County

Feeding South Florida - Miami-Dade Distribution

Service: Food bank network providing emergency food assistance, senior programs, and mobile food distributions
Main Distribution Center: 2501 Southwest 32nd Terrace, Pembroke Park, FL 33023

SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)

Service: Monthly benefits loaded on an EBT card to purchase food at authorized retailers
Apply Online: MyACCESS at myflfamilies.com or ACCESS Florida at myflorida.com/accessflorida
Eligibility: Income-based program; seniors age 60+ may have higher asset limits and deductions for medical expenses

Utility Assistance Programs

Emergency Home Energy Assistance for the Elderly Program (EHEAP)

Administered by: Alliance for Aging
Service: Energy assistance during home energy emergency (disconnection notice, broken AC/heating, high energy burden)
Benefit: Up to $600 per household per year (summer and winter benefits available)
Eligibility: At least one person age 60+ in household, low-income household experiencing energy crisis, reside in Miami-Dade County

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

Administered by: Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department
Service: Utility payment assistance for heating and cooling costs for low-income households
Eligibility: Low-income households with financial difficulty paying energy bills

FPL (Florida Power & Light) Assistance Programs

Programs: Care to Share (emergency assistance), payment arrangements, budget billing, energy efficiency programs

Community Programs & Services

Community Care for the Elderly (CCE)

Services: Case management, homemaking, personal care, respite care, emergency alert response, adult day care, monthly caregiver stipend
Goal: Help functionally-impaired elders remain independent and avoid premature nursing home placement

Alzheimer's Disease Initiative (ADI)

Services: Specialized support for individuals with Alzheimer's or related disorders and their caregivers
Services Include: Respite care, adult day care, caregiver training and support

Home Care for the Elderly (HCE)

Contact: Alliance for Aging at 305-670-4357
Service: Basic subsidy for caregivers of 3 or fewer elders living in private homes
Eligibility: Age 60+, living in family-type arrangement in private home

SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders)

Contact: Alliance for Aging at 305-670-4357 or 1-800-96-ELDER
Service: Free, unbiased Medicare and health insurance counseling

Older Americans Act Programs

Services: Supportive services, congregate meals, home-delivered meals, family caregiver support
Eligibility: Age 60+ and their caregivers
